Product Review: SEPHORA's Sculpting Disk

SEPHORA's Sculpting Disk!

By far my most favourite combination of Bronzing powder, Highlighting powder and Maifying powder. Firstly, its really convenient to have all of them in one compact. Secondly, its huge! So it can be used for quite a long time, not unless youre makeup crazy and use tonnes of them onto your face ;p Thirdly, its reasonably priced at $30. And lastly, all 3 powders are really good and i'll tell you why.

The bronzing powder has a slight shimmer. Slight shimmer is good for bronzing powders as it gives your face that healthy glow youve always wanted. Matte bronzing powders makes your face dull and boring. It is only good when applying for stage makeup as for stage you wont want your face to be shimmering so much under all those spotlights. However, on a daily basis, slightly shimmered bronzing powder works great! The colour stain is good and the colour works well for Asian skin as it compliments our slightly yellowish/brownish skin tone. Can also be used as eyeshadow for contouring on the crease or onto the eyelids!

The highlighting powder is in a very pale, light peachy pink colour which is great to compliment pink to apricot blushers. The pigment is awesome and the thing i like about this particular powder is that it doesnt make your face extremely shiny. It just gives you a hint of glow when applied onto cheekbones. You never want too much highlighting as it may make your face appear bigger and wider if applied excessively and onto the wrong areas on your face. Can also be used as eyeshadow onto the eyelids or as a highlight onto your brow bones!

The Matifying powder, lastly, is used to matify your entire face after full makeup is applied. However, do not apply it over your higlighting powder. Simple apply it over the entire face avoiding the areas you highlight and apply just a little onto your contours so that there is still shimmer left ont he right areas on your face. The end result i receive when using this matifying powder is that my makeup appears more porcelain and smooth. It also allows your makeup to hold for a slightly longer period of time. The shade is great for fair to medium skin tone. However if you have really dark skin tone, i would not recommend you to use this shade of matifying powder as it will result in greying skin when too light of a powder is applied onto dark skin. You should try SEPHORA's matifying powder in a darker shade.

The only disadvantage i find is that the sculpting powder comes in only this combination of shades. I don't know if thats the case or it was out of stock when i came to the store to purchase but thats the only one i saw. It would be great if they had more than one combination. Better still, give customers the opportunity to pick their own combination!

HAPPY TRYING! :)

P.S. Wait up for my latest Halloween look, spooooooooky doll~

Product review: Brush cleaners

People often come to me complaining about how some products have negative impact on their skin such as breakouts, rash and what not. Yes, not all products are suitable for all skin types and Yes not all products can match your skin needs and that is why you might suffer from all of the above mentioned. HOWEVER sometimes it could be because your makeup applicators are dirty. I emphasize, DIRTY. This happens when you (1)Don't wash your brushes/powder puffs often or not at all or (2)Don't change your sponges every now and then. This is very important as it is basic hygiene. Theres no point spending so much on beauty products to clear pimples or reduce this and that but don't practise basic hygiene. So today, im gonna recommend you 2 relatively good and affordable products that you can use to clean your brushes.

In the image above, the one on the left which says 'Cosmetic brush cleaner' is from COSMOPROF and the one on the right which says 'Daily makeup brush cleaner' is from SEPHORA. Both are very affordable. Cosmoprof's is $5/$6 i can't really remember and Sephora's is $12. I believe Sephora's is slightly more expensive because it comes in a spray bottle for easier usage. Whereas Cosmoprof's comes in a glass bottle so u'll have to use a stainless steel container to pour the product into to wash your brushes. Both has its own plus and minus points and i'll tell you what they are.

COSMOPROF's + points :)
1) Cleans your brushes very well. No makeup left on brushes after cleaning.
2) Strong but doesnt spoil your brushes leaving them soft as it is.
3) Cheap Cheap!
4) Don't have to wash brushes as often, maybe once/twice every week, as it cleans brushes completely in one wash.

COSMOPROF's - points :(
1) Comes in a glass bottle. A little bit of a hassle to clean your brushes as you'll have to use a stainless steel container to pour the product into.
2) Brushes have to be air dried a little longer.
3) Easy to use for small brushes but big brushes require more product usage.
4) Cannot pour into plastic spray bottles as the chemicals are too strong for such bottles

SEPHORA's + points :)
1) Comes in a spray bottle for easier usage. Just spray onto bristles and wipe clean on dry towel.
2) Good for big brushes as your bruhes wont have to be soaking wet.
3) Dries faster
4) Anti-bacterial formula

SEPHORA's - points :(
1) Brushes wont be a 100% clean. Still a teeny bit of makeup left on brushes after cleaning.
2) Slightly more expensive. You can buy 2 of Cosmoprof's instead of 1 of Sephora's ;)
3) Slightly scented (Well, to me this is a - point)
4) Better to use daily as it only cleans off light traces of makeup on brushes. (More product used = more spending!)

So there you go! To me, these two products are somewhat similar. Both are good products but if i had to choose between these two, i'd choose COSMOPROF's simply coz i don't have to wash my brushes everyday. hehehe ;p

So yup, hope this helps! Remember, WASH THOSE BRUSHES so you can have fun with makeup without having to worry about breakouts and such! :D

HAPPY RAYA EVERYONE!

Im sure all of you looked gorgeous on your first day of Hari Raya! The day in the year where everyone is psyched about dressing to kill. With their lovely traditional Malay outfit, their lovely tight fitting kebaya, looking all good and handsome in their baju kurung telok blangah and all. Oh so gorgeous!

And of course alongside all the pretty pretty outfits, is the MAKEUP and hairstyle! Something id be much more interested in actually haha ;p So... Everyone loves Kim K right. Like who doesnt? And so this year i thought of a more smokey, sultry, feminine yet fierce kinda look, something inspired by her. Strong on the eyes, strong on the cheeks and also on the lips but all well-blend and smooth.

The thing about her look is that it doesnt really have a focus and thats why its a little harder to carry as compared to looks that focuses on either features on your face. Because everything is strong on the face, you will have to keep it together by blending the colours well and not overdo it. Trying to 'push your luck' by using too many colours or putting too much product will make it look harsh. Get what i mean? Some might say, hey its only a smokey eye look, nothing different. Well, honestly, the smokey eye look is one of the easiest yet hardest look to pull. Believe me? No? Try :)

Heres me on my first day of Hari Raya! Hair all pulled up coz its hot hehe ;)

Pardon me for the quality of the photo but this is the best i could do. So, for the look i achieved, all the products that i used was the more 'less expensive' makeup. Something more affordable. The brands that are more wearable on a daily basis unless you can afford the more high end brands of course. By all means get them! However, if you're still schooling or have just started working or dont really like to splurge on makeup coz youre just not so into it, then heres a post for you. Im a little more detailed when it comes to event makeup coz hey beauty takes time! ;p

For my base i used...
1)Vaseline cream (Always good to moisturize before putting on makeup!)
2)SEPHORA Brightening and hydrating foundation, Medium 30- Full face
3)SEPHORA Perfecting cover foundation, Medium 30- Full Face
4)KRYOLAN Stick foundation, FS45- Undereyes
5)Maybelline shine free powder foundation SPF20, Nude Beige- Undereyes
6)Maybelline Mineral UV Compact foundation SPF 30, OC3- Rest of the face

For my eyes i used...
7)Silky Girl Natural Brow pencil, 02 Dark Brown
8)The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer- Center of Eyelid and brow bone
9)Coastal Scents 88 shimmer Palette, Any Dark brown you prefer- Eyelid and Crease
10)LOREAL Super liner, instant impact felt liner, Black- Around your eyes
11)Maybelline The falsies volume express waterproof mascara- eyelashes
12)Any falsies you prefer applied with LASHGRIP Waterproof eyelash adhesive

For my cheeks i used...
13)Bourjois Paris bronzing powder Delice De Soleil, 12 Fair/Medium skin- Contouring
14)NYX Powder blush, PB06 Peach- Cheekbones

For my lips i used...
15)LOREAL Paris Intense Color Riche, 373 Magnetic Coral
16)NYX Shimmer gloss, RLG 13 Peach

I also applied abit of blush on my chin and contoured my nose with the bronzing powder :)

The reason why you see 2 types of foundation stated is because im not blessed with such perfect complexion so i love to mix my foundation to get the perfect match for my skin complexion and type. You should too!

Do try out the look! This coming weekend maybe? :)
Till my next update, ADIOS lovelies!

She's dope!

Hi everybody! Its been too long! Its getting dusty here so imma sweep off all the dust and get back on track! I apologise for the lack of updates as i have been very very busy with my job as a bridal makeup artist and almost every weekend im out and going. So its really difficult for me to update regularly now BUT i will try, for you my dear SQeen fans :)

And so, since i can't find the time to do looks for you i have decided to search on youtube. I looked up on a few makeup guru on youtube and i came across one very interesting person. She's dope2111 on youtube. Thats her channel and she's got quite a number of makeup videos ranging from the regular out-for-a-date makeup tutorial all the way to Fantasy makeup. So to me she's really good coz she has this one skill that not every makeup artist has. She's able to transform using makeup into celebrities such as Taylor Swift, Marilyn Monroe and even Johnny Depp! You might think im talking crap but wait till you watch her amazing videos. I was amazed at how good she was especially in her video of the Angelina Jolie transformation. The only downside to her videos is that its kinda thick and not wearable on a daily basis. However, her techniques are great and i believe we can all learn a little something from that. On top of that she has GREAT features! Just watch her do her thang!

Her as Angelina Jolie

Her as Taylor Swift

Thank you for your time reading and i will update you soon! Oh, theres a random giveaway coming really soon! Stay tuned to my FB Page SQeen(Professional Makeup Artistry)

With love,
SQeen!
